leaf what you find?

My niece was fascinated by the giant tree ferns that were green on top and silver underneath. She kept turning the leaves over and over to see and feel the contrasting surfaces. She asked if she could pick one of the large fronds to take home. What do you say?

I explained that this was a native bush reserve and we should leave the interesting stuff we found, but since she liked the silver ferns so much perhaps she could take a small piece to hold. This was an acceptable compromise for her and she twirled the piece of fern in her fingers for the rest of the walk.

By the time my niece is twelve like my daughter she will be less interested in having stuff. When you are six, stuff is just the best thing!

My daughter takes photos and she puts them on the desktop background of our computer to enjoy. She is now happy to leave what she finds in the outdoors.
