The problems with fire places

The people who built the Old Ghost Road were inspired (probably also crazy).  My wife and I recently rode the length of that amazing track which covers so much diverse terrain.  This is Goat Creek Hut - a classic deer culler's hut.
People had done a good job generally of leaving no trace, with one notable exception.  Every fire place had rubbish in it.  I don't mind paper and cardboard for fire-starting.  But the foil-plastic-paper laminated bags shouldn't be burnt.  Firstly the plastic releases toxins when its burnt, secondly the foil never burns away and leaves a permanent mark.  Dispose of waste properly; it really doesn't take much to take the rubbish that you carried in, back out again.  Better still, plan ahead and prepare by taking in food that doesn't have that kind of packaging.  Either way, don't just put it in the fireplace.

We put the rubbish in our packs and carried it out- and we were on unicycles.  If you have two wheels or legs you have no excuse (OK there are no excuses in my opinion anyway).
