I entered a 3-day cycling stage race recently. Each evening there was a bit of banter about the days racing from the race director and her support crew. On the second evening one of the support crew held up a wrapper from an energy bar. It had been picked up on the roadside, only on this occasion they had seen one of the cyclists, deliberately discarding the wrapper. The person, to much good natured ribbing, was returned the wrapper in front of the whole group. The point was made but with good humour.
If they hadn't already, I think that everyone in the group would have disposed of their rubbish appropriately from that moment on.
I thought it was great to see a 'leave no trace' example being set by the leaders of an outdoor event. I applauded their action!
